Donald L. DeVeau, 90, U.S. Army Veteran

Donald L. DeVeau, 90, husband of Edith A. (Russell) DeVeau, passed away May 8 in Haverhill.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Etta M. (Comeau) DeVeau. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School. After graduation, DeVeau enlisted in the United States Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged. He was employed at the former Western Electric, former AT&T and Lucent Technologies and retired in 1983. DeVeau served as vice president and president of the Telephone Pioneers of America. In 1992 he moved to Bryant Woods in Atkinson, N.H., where he was very active in the community there, enjoying gardening. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his loving wife of over 67 years, DeVeau is survived by daughters, Donna L. Hopkins and her husband William of Bow, N.H., Leslye K. “Lee” Kifer and her husband Robert of Leominster, his grandchildren, Jason Hopkins, Hannah Joy (Hopkins) Smith and her husband Geoffrey, Sarah Kifer and Amy Kifer, a brother, Ralph DeVeau of California, sisters Claire Abrams of Salem, N.H., Eunice Braithwaite of Joppa, Md., Jeanette Duarte of Miami, Fla., Joanna Christian of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Lucien, Hubert, Norman and Conrad DeVeau and sisters Myrna Newell and Roberta Dumont.

A Memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atkinson, N.H. Elder Services, 4 Main St., Atkinson, NH 03811.
