On Saturday morning, firefighters responded to a vehicle fire that spread to a house at 586 Prospect St. Fire Chief Timothy Sheehy told WHAV that the blaze began when the car was being jump-started and resulted in exterior smoke-related damage to the home’s siding. No injuries were reported.

A second weekend call brought firefighters back to the same neighborhood to respond to 40 Timber Lane just before 1:30 p.m.

Sheehy said an incident involving an aerosol canister in a downstairs bedroom forced a woman and her infant daughter to flee from the split-level home. A neighbor called 911 and triggered the emergency response from the Methuen police and fire departments.

The infant was treated on scene for smoke inhalation by medics.

Though the house is not a total loss, Sheehy estimates damage between $150,000-$200,000. The family stayed with relatives Sunday.
