UPDATE: Haverhill Man, 68, Dies From Injuries Sustained in Main Street SUV Accident

UPDATE, 2:40 p.m.: The 68-year-old man has died as a result of injuries sustained in this weekend’s accident, Steve O’Connell, a spokesman for the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, tells WHAV. His identity is not yet being made public pending next of kin notification. O’Connell tells WHAV the SUV’s driver is a 21-year-old Haverhill woman, and that no charges have been filed as the investigation continues.

A Haverhill man is in critical condition in a Boston area hospital today after being struck by an SUV Sunday afternoon crossing Main Street at 18th Avenue.

Initial reports say that the 68-year-old was walking west on Main Street near 18th Avenue when he was hit by an SUV traveling northbound on Main Street at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

Some witness reports say the man was in the crosswalk by Athena Health Care Systems when he was struck.

The Haverhill Police Traffic Unit and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S.) are investigating. There are no criminal charges at this time.
