Haverhill’s Hilldale Avenue is on the rise. EMD Performance Materials, a tenant in the city’s Hilldale Avenue Business Corridor, is set to expand its research and development facility, bringing more jobs to the technology firm.

Located at 1429 Hilldale Ave., EMD employs 85 full-time workers and makes semiconductors for devices like smartphones. Once their expansion is complete, 20,000 square feet will be added to their city office space, with an undisclosed amount of new job opportunities possible.

“Operating in Haverhill has been good for us,” EMD Site Director Warren Seitz said. “The city has helped us at every turn whether it’s workforce solutions or business support programs. We are pleased to be invested in this community.”

City officials are excited to have EMD in the neighborhood.

“This shows that companies on the cutting edge of technology are not exclusive to Silicon Valley and can thrive here in Haverhill,” Mayor James J. Fiorentini said.

City Council President John A. Michitson is confident in the company he applauds as “forward thinking.”

“These new research and development jobs lead to the manufacturing jobs of tomorrow, one of Haverhill’s key strategies for the future,” Michitson said.

A May 15 groundbreaking ceremony is planned to celebrate the expansion.
