Firefighters from Haverhill, Georgetown and the state forestry dept. were called upon to fight a blaze Monday afternoon behind the Trinity Stadium fields.

Several units responded to the scene of a brush fire Monday afternoon in the area between the Merrimack River, River’s Edge Plaza and the stadium fields, behind the former site of Building 19.

Crews from Haverhill, Georgetown and the state’s forestry department fought the fire, which was called in by a passerby on the Groveland side of the river.

It took a couple of hours to get the fire under control, said Deputy Chief Eric Tarpy, but there were no injuries or structure damage reported.

There is no word on what caused the fire but Tarpy said brush fires are fairly common this time of year and, therefore, the department will not devote a lot of resources to investigating the cause.
