Holy Family Hospital’s Dr. Romie N. Mundy II has been chosen to succeed retiring Haverhill Health Board chairman Dr. Carl F. Rosenbloom, Mayor James J. Fiorentini said Monday.

Mundy’s appointment takes effect immediately and expires on January 1, 2020.

“Dr. Mundy is enthusiastic about joining our Board of Health and leading the way in expanding the board’s role in educating and serving the public,” Fiorentini said.

In his new role, Mundy is tasked with increasing public outreach and educational efforts and organizing health fairs and disease screenings.

“As a physician, I am privileged to serve the citizens of Haverhill daily in my practice,” Mundy said. “I am honored that the mayor has appointed me to the Board of Health and excited to serve my adopted hometown in this new role.”

A general surgeon fellowship trained in colon and rectal surgery, Mundy joined the Holy Family staff in 2015. He received his degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and completed his residency at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Mundy joins fellow heath board members Peter Carbone and Dr. Alexander Matolcsy.
