Irene R. (Stankiewicz) Tardif, 97, Professional Singer

Irene R. (Stankiewicz) Tardif, 97, wife of the late Albert J. “Bucko” Tardif, known as the “Mayor of South Lawrence”passed away April 14 at Nevins Nursing Home in Methuen surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Pittsburg, Penn., she was the daughter of the late Boleslau and Stephanie (Pietrasykiewicz) Stankiewicz. She was raised and educated in Pittsburg, Penn. and was a graduate of Shenley High School. She was a graduate of University of Pittsburg.

Tardif was a talented singer and was a professional singer with KDKA, the first radio station in the U.S. A devout Catholic, she also sang in the church. Family was special to Tardif and she enjoyed spending time with them at Lake Attitash, where she summered for over fifty years. She was employed at the former Bucko’s Tavern as a bookkeeper. A devoted mother and grandmother, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Tardif is survived by her children, Dennis R. “Bucky” Tardif and his wife Susan of Haverhill; Joseph A. Tardif and his wife Mary of Newburyport; four grandchildren, Julie Hazelton and her husband Scott, Kerin Byrne and her husband Alex, Christopher Tardif and his wife Ra, Joseph Tardif, Jr. and his wife Christine; four great grandchildren, Jalen, Jaxson, Desmond and Charlie; three special friends, Telia Sederman, Maryann Power and Linda Bradley; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, April 18 from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main Street, Bradford. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Waverly Road, North Andover. Donations may be made in her name to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA 02445.
