Andover Historical Society Receives Grant to Fund ‘Discovering My Neighborhood’ Program in Schools

The Andover Historical Society aims to share the town’s rich history with elementary school students across the district through a new program called “Discovering My Neighborhood.”

Funded through a partnership grant from the Essex National Heritage Commission, the historical society’s program follows a 2017 pilot version that bolstered the history course curriculum district-wide. In the latest iteration of “Discovering My Neighborhood,” students will use photographs and maps to trace the history of their local neighborhoods.

Ten other cities and towns across Essex County received funding from the Heritage Commission to implement educational and preservation projects.

The other recipients are:

Lawrence: Bread and Roses Heritage Committee, Inc.
Marblehead: Marblehead Museum
Middleton: Middleton Stream Team
Newburyport: Historical Society of Old Newbury and Theater in the Open
Peabody: Peabody Historical Society and Museum
