Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day is this Saturday, April 14, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, 40 South Porter St.
Proof of residency is required.
Residents can dispose of accepted materials, up to 25 gallons of liquid chemicals and up to 25 pounds of dry chemicals.
Acceptable items:
Pesticides, car wax, polishes, waxes, wood strippers, wood stains, pool chemicals, photo chemicals, drain cleaners, brake fluid, muriatic acid, degreasers, antifreeze, old gasoline, creosote, wood preservative, solvents, sealants, oil paint, Ni-Cd batteries, fluorescent bulbs.
Unacceptable items:
Latex paint (latex paint can be placed with household trash once completely solidified), electronics, asbestos, motor oil, propane tanks, explosives, radioactive waste, fire extinguishers, car batteries and smoke detectors.
The following items can be disposed of at the Recycling Center, 500 Primrose St.
Motor Oil can be disposed of on the last Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is a five gallon limit at no charge.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., appliances and scrap metal are accepted, including hot water heaters, dryers, washers, dishwashers, stoves, microwaves, refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners, at $15 per appliance.
For tires, there is a fee of $5 per passenger tire and $10 per truck tire. Tires do not have to be off the rims.
Propane tanks are accepted at a cost of $5 each.
Products that contain mercury are accepted at no charge

No cash is accepted on site. Pay by check or pay online and print your receipt for the onsite attendant at the Recycling Center front office.
