Knights Win Against Quinsigamond

The Northern Essex Community College Knights baseball team opened regional division play this weekend with a two-game sweep against Quinsigamond Community College.

Richard Reidy of Amesbury pitched a nearly flawless game Saturday afternoon, striking out nine opponents for a shut-out win of 10-0.

Ben Irvine of Peabody was the offensive star of the game, going 4 for 4 at the plate, scoring three runs, driving in two runs, and stealing four bases.

The Knights were down 4-3 after four innings in the second game of the weekend, but crossed the plate 15 times during the final three innings of the game for an 18-6 win.

Kyle Hawes of Lynnfield was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored during the second game. Riley Magee of Windham, N.H., Alex Almonte of Lawrence and Spencer Balian of Lynnfield each recorded multiple hits.

Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors eight varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men’s basketball, softball, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s track and field.
