Bruce P. Hansen, 78, of Hansen’s Christmas Tree Farm

Bruce P. Hansen, 78, passed away peacefully at his home after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Oceanside, Long Island, he was the son of the late Peter E. and H. Violet (Hiltz) Hansen. He moved to the family farm in Haverhill at age 6, where he resided until his death.

A graduate of Haverhill High School, he continued his education at Brewster Academy and graduated from University of New Hampshire with a degree in geology. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army. He served his country in Panama, becoming a paratrooper and obtaining his small plane pilot’s license. He returned home to the farm where he began Hansen’s Christmas Tree Farm, which remains in operation today. Bruce took great pride in his trees, winning several awards at the Topsfield Fair.

Bruce was a hydrologist with the US Geological Survey for over 40 years. He then held a similar position with the Massachusetts DCR until his retirement in 2015. He was an avid model train enthusiast and also enjoyed annual camping trips to Maine and Vermont with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Bruce is survived by his two sons, Joshua D Hansen of Terryville Conn.; Kevin P Hansen and his fiancé Shauna McManus of Methuen; his former wife, Pamela J (Eason) Hansen; and several cousins.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service on Sunday, April 8 at 1:30 PM at West Congregational Church, 767 Broadway, Haverhill.
