Ernest R. Senter, Jr., 93, Retired Haverhill Police Officer

Ernest R. Senter, Jr., 93, of Ward Hill, passed away peacefully Tues. morning, March 27th
at the Berkeley Nursing Center in Lawrence.

Ernie was born in Haverhill on Sept. 27, 1924, son of the late Ernest and Madeline (Ray) Senter.

Ernie spent his final months in the comforting care of the very special and dedicated people of the Berkeley Retirement & Nursing Center in Lawrence, MA.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1941 – 1945, spending time in the Pacific Theatre as a member of the 720th Amphibious Tractor Battalion until his Honorable Discharge in 1945. After his service, Ernie became a proud member of the Haverhill Police Department, where he spent 35 years as a Patrolman, Detective and Records Systems Technician.

Ernie was an avid Amateur (HAM) Radio Enthusiast, having spent time making contact with people all over the world for the better part of 75 Years.

He was predeceased in 2006 by his loving wife, Mary E. (Lovely) Senter, with whom he enjoyed 56 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Mary Barth, Phyllis Pappas and Helen Porro.

Ernie (Buppa) is survived by his children; Kathleen Woodbury and her husband G.Talbot of North Salem, NH, John Senter and his wife Diane of Bradford, and Thomas Senter and his wife Victoria of S. Berwick ,ME, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ernie will also be missed by his special friend & companion Millie Caliri, who also lived at the Berkeley, where they graced the foyer with sparkling conversation for hours on end.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Friday, March 30, from 10 – 11 a.m. at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., Bradford.

His Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford.
