Plaistow Begins Mosquito Control Program Early Next Month

The town of Plaistow will begin their mosquito control program the week of April 9. Crews from Dragon Mosquito Control will be checking swamps, marshes, woodland pools, ditches, storm drains and other shallow, stagnant water for mosquito larvae. When mosquitos are found, one of seven types of pesticides may be used.

If Eastern Equine Encephalitis or West Nile Virus is found in or near Plaistow, then emergency spraying may be conducted, using one of five products, at any of the following locations: Pollard Elementary School, Timberlane Regional High School & Middle School, Vic Geary Senior Center, Plaistow Area Recreational Complex (PARC) and Smith Field.

Town officials say it’s impossible to predict if emergency spraying will be necessary, as the spray schedule is based upon mosquito surveillance data, disease test results and weather conditions. Further communication will be given if emergency spraying becomes necessary.

Residents who do not want their wetlands treated can use the online No-Spray registry online at dragonmosquito.com/no-spray-registry or write to Dragon Mosquito Control, P.O. Box 46, Stratham, NH 03885. Include your name, physical address, phone number, a description of your house and acreage.
