The Atkinson, N.H. community is in mourning. Former town police chief and selectman Philip V. Consentino died Tuesday, March 20, succumbing to his battle with cancer.
Consentino’s Board of Selectmen colleague Jason Grosky confirmed the sad news on social media late Tuesday, adding that Consentino attended his final town meeting just last week.
“Phil fought hard over these last several months and yet still made it in last week to attend his final meeting as a selectman, and started the meeting as our chairman,” Grosky wrote in a Facebook tribute. “Thank you for your many years of service to Atkinson. Rest easy, my friend.”
Consentino was a member the town of Atkinson’s police department for 42 years—35 as chief—and served as a selectman for 10 years. In January, Consentino announced he would not seek re-election, citing health reasons.
He was also active in the Atkinson Fire Department and local Lions Club, among other organizations.
