Robert E. Kent, 85, was a Korean War Veteran

Robert E. Kent of Groveland passed away on Friday, March 16. He was the son of Francis E. Kent and Doris Conant Kent. He was predeceased by a sister Evelyn Broz, a brother, Thomas W. Kent, and step-brother Richard C. Johnson.

Kent was born in Beverly and was a resident of Georgetown for 25 years where he graduated from the Perley Free High School. Upon graduation of high school, he was awarded the Good Citizen Medal from the Daughters of the American Revolution. He attended Burdett College in Boston. During the Korean War he served in the Army, stationed at Fort Dix, NJ as a discharge administrator and at Hohenfels, Germany as a personnel specialist.

After the service, he was employed by Family Bank (Haverhill Savings Bank) as a mortgage / loan officer. He graduated from the National Savings Banks executive school at Brown University. For several years he was Treasurer of the Haverhill Boys Club, Penacook Place, Boy Scout Troop 87, and the Groveland Congregation Church. He was past master of the Georgetown Grange and Essex County Pomona Grange and a member of Charles C. Dame Lodge, AF & AM for 57 years.
He enjoyed gardening, reading and music and was especially fond of opera and Broadway musicals.

Kent leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn Gordon Kent and a son Gordon E. Kent of Bradford and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service Celebrating Kent’s life will be held on Saturday, March 24, in the Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King Street, Groveland, MA beginning at 1:00 PM. Private burial will follow. Guests, family and friends are welcome to join with Bob’s family for a reception at 2:30 PM at DiBurro’s, 887 Boston Road, Haverhill, MA 01835.
