Methuen Police were called to Methuen High School on Monday where they arrested a student for allegedly making threatening remarks
A Methuen High School student was arrested on Monday after making “disturbing remarks” in front of other students, according to Mayor James Jajuga and Police Chief Joseph Solomon.
The 16-year-old 10th grader was reported to school administrators by concerned students after he allegedly made references regarding bullets, death and a mass shooting at the school.
Methuen Police were called to the school at 2 p.m. where the student was arrested without incident and charged with Threats Concerning Dangerous Items and Disturbance in a School.
“This is an excellent example of ‘see something, say something,’” Mayor Jajuga said. “In this instance, students heard disturbing remarks about committing violence at school, and they spoke up immediately. This is one of the ways we keep our community and our schools safe.”
Methuen police say that no weapons were found while searching the suspect’s home and they do not believe there is any danger at this time.
The suspect will be arraigned in Lawrence Juvenile Court.
