An 80-year-old Andover man died following a two-alarm fire at the town’s Andover Commons apartment complex Thursday morning.

Crews responded to the four-story, 167-unit complex at 30 Railroad St. just after 11 a.m. and started battling the blaze that originated on the fourth floor.

Residents were evacuated from their apartments in an effort to fight the fire on the south side of the complex. Firefighters from Lawrence, Methuen, Tewksbury, Wilmington, North Reading and North Andover were called in to assist.

Firefighters located the 80-year-old man in his apartment and performed life-saving measures, but the resident was pronounced dead after being transported to Lawrence General Hospital.

No other injuries were reported and all residents were able to return to their apartments.
