Haverhill Man Assaults Police After Attempting to Shoplift Pizza, Candy from River St. 7-11

A Haverhill man is facing two counts of assault and battery on police officers after he attempted to steal $42 worth of food items from the River Street 7-11 convenience store on Sunday.

Michael Dellofano, 47, of 467 Washington St., was taken into custody at 1:45 a.m. after his efforts to shoplift items including candy, a sub sandwich and pizza.

Haverhill Officers Penny Portalla and Kevin DeCarvalho were not injured when taking Dellofano into custody, according to police spokesman Detective Lt. Robert Pistone.

In addition to the assault and shoplifting charges, Dellofano is also charged with resisting arrest. At the time of his arrest, he had warrants in his name for assault and battery and suspended license charges.
