Lillie J. (Jordan) Torrence, 79, Retired from Lucent

Lillie J. (Jordan) Torrence, 79, of Haverhill, died Feb. 27 at her residence.

She was born in Roberta, Ga., on June 3, 1938, the daughter of the late Graham and Mattie (Barnes) Jordan.

Educated in the Roberta school system, Torrence was a graduate of Crawford County High School.

She moved to Haverhill in the mid 1950s and was employed at the former Lucent Technologies for over 24 years from where she retired.

A lifetime member of the NAACP, she was a longtime member and Deaconess at Calvary Baptist Church, Haverhill, a member of the Civic Education Club and the Haverhill League of Women Voters.

She was the wife of the late William Torrence, Sr., who died in 2010 and her survivors include a daughter, Theresa L. Brown and her husband Dr. Donald E. of Cambridge, a son, William Torrence, Jr. and his wife Fredia D. of Bradford, two sisters, Mattie Morris of Norton and Minnie Hires of Roberta, Ga., four grandchildren, Arianna, David, Benjamin and Giavanna, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Saturday, March 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. in Calvary Baptist Church, 13 Ashland St., Haverhill, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in the Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill & Bradford.
