A 29-year-old Methuen man was one of seven people arrested Saturday following the reckless operation of dozens of motorcycles, off-road bikes and ATVs on Interstate 93 in Boston.
William Suliveras was arrested in the sweep of riders and has been charged with failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, wrong way violation on a state highway and resisting arrest, among other charges.
Released on bail, Suliveras is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court this week.
The melee began around 5 p.m. on Saturday when Troopers observed a group of 25-35 drivers traveling erratically, leading to several 911 calls from concerned motorists. When Troopers tried to make initial arrests on the ramp from Route 93 Southbound to Exit 18 on Mass Ave, a State Trooper fired his gun and struck one of the riders, a 28-year-old Randolph man. That man was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment of a non-life threatening injury. A Trooper sustained a knee injury during the incident and was taken to Mass General for treatment.
State Police seized approximately 20 motorcycles and ATVs during the incident.
