Haverhill Police plan to participate in May’s Police Unity Tour, supporting families of fallen officers.

With the motto of “We Ride for Those That Died,” Haverhill officers will ride four days from Northern New Jersey to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. The ride raises money to support the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum and pay for programs to support families of fallen officers.

The Police Unity Tour was organized by Florham, N.J., Police Officer Patrick P. Montuore in May 1997 to bring public awareness of police who have died in the line of duty and to honor their sacrifices. There are now nine chapters with nearly 2,500 members nationally who make the trip annually. Montuore later retired as Florham’s police chief.
