A 43-year-old Haverhill man is under arrest after allegedly robbing a downtown TD Bank branch Friday night by threatening to use a gun.

Haverhill Police said Joseph D. Disaronno, of 14 Washington St., Apt 2, Haverhill, fled the Merrimack Street bank on foot, but was tracked to a fourth-floor apartment on River Street. Police report Disaronno entered the bank sometime before its 7 p.m. closing time, approached a teller with a note and threatened use of a gun. He fled with an undisclosed sum of money.

“The Haverhill Police officers that responded to this robbery, and quickly apprehended the suspect without incident, did an outstanding job, and the department is proud of their professionalism,” said Detective Lt. Robert P. Pistone, police spokesman.

According to police, Disaronno was tracked to 133 River St. and surrendered without incident. Residents of the apartment said they did not know him. He was charged with armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon. Police, saying the investigation is ongoing, did not say whether they recovered a weapon.

Bank staff reported a white male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, slim build with grey/black facial stubble. He wore a black hat and blue Patriots hooded sweatshirt.
