Members of Haverhill’s Statehouse delegation Thursday announced that the Baker-Polito Administration awarded the city nearly $9 million to improve its drinking water and revamp infrastructure.

The funds come in the form of a loan from the Department of Environmental Protection’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. Haverhill’s share is part of $650 million distributed across the Commonwealth for 2018.

“Updates to Haverhill’s water infrastructure will help ensure the health and safety of our citizens, which is of the upmost importance to the Haverhill delegation,” State Rep. Andy Vargas said in statement.

Vargas lobbied for the funding alongside Rep. Linda Dean Campbell and Rep. Diana DiZoglio.
