Haverhill stands to receive $1.5 million in road-related repair money during the current fiscal year.
The amount is slightly greater than last year’s state allotment and was announced Tuesday by Gov. Charlie Baker as he filed a $200 million statewide bond bill. Meanwhile, Methuen’s share of what is called “Chapter 90” money amounts to about $1.2 million and Andover’s share is about $1.4 million.
Amounts are determined by a formula that considers the numbers of miles of streets, a community’s population and employment, among other factors. Haverhill has 228 miles of eligible streets, while Methuen has 174 and Andover, 186.
“Chapter 90 funding provides critical support for local officials who need to repair infrastructure in cities and towns across Massachusetts,” said Baker in a statement. “Roads and bridges in good repair throughout the Commonwealth are an essential component of growing our state and regional economy, and we look forward to working with the legislature to secure this funding before construction season begins,” he added.
