Edward T. Overka, 70, Worked at Holy Family Hospital Methuen

Edward T. Overka, 70, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 9.

Born on Oct. 25, 1947, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rita (Provencal) Overka. He was raised in Lawrence and was a resident of the city his entire life. Overka loved all Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox. He spent a lot of time at the Franco American in Lawrence before it closed and the French Social Club where he enjoyed spending time with his brothers and other family members while his late brother Richard tended bar at both establishments. Overka played for an adult softball league out of Lawrence for several years growing up and worked for the Holy Family Hospital, Methuen in the Housekeeping Department for many years until retirement. Overka had a longtime companion, Pauline Brunette for over 30 years until her passing in 2015.

Surviving family members include his daughters Kelly Gaudreau and husband Brian of Auburn, N.H. and Susan Overka of Manchester, N.H., grandchildren Joshua, Kaylei, Jameson, Jr., Jared, Brandon and Jada, great-grandchildren Cameron, Zaiden, Tyler, brother Joseph “Chick” Overka and his wife Simone Blanchette of Lawrence and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Deceased family members include his brothers Richard Overka and Donald Overka, niece Collinda Overka and nephew Wayne Overka.

A celebration of Overka’s life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15 in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main St., Haverhill from 5 to 7 p.m.
