State Police Make Heroin-Related Arrests on I-495 in Haverhill

Two Connecticut men were arrested in Haverhill early Friday morning on heroin-related charges after Massachusetts State Police pulled over a car on I-495 with a tail light out.

A passenger in the 2009 Subaru Legacy, Matthew Bielefield, 26, of Torrington, Conn., was charged with possession of what was believed to be heroin with intent to distribute and a Class E prescription medication Jon Michael Ashner, 27, of Torrington, Conn., was arrested for driving without a license, being present where heroin is kept and an equipment violation.

The arrests took place at about 4:45 a.m., northbound, ahead of exit 51 on I-495, by Trooper Stephen Connor, a recent graduate of the 83rd Recruit Training Troop, and his trooper coach, Michael Gerniglia.

Both men were arraigned Friday in Haverhill District Court, sitting in Newburyport.
