Edward W. Kimball, 93, Former Longtime School Committee Member

Longtime Haverhill School Committeeman Edward W. Kimball, 93, of Newburyport and a former Haverhill resident, peacefully passed away in the company of his family Feb. 7, at Atria Assisted Living in Newburyport.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and due to his heroic actions in combat, was awarded the Bronze Star and authorized to wear the Combat “V.” He was also awarded the Purple Heart for the serious wounds he suffered during his service. Returning to civilian life after the war, he was a constant contributor to the Haverhill community. He was deeply committed to education and served on the Haverhill School Committee from 1952 to 1973. After retiring from John Hancock Life Insurance Company, he began a new career as a teacher and educator at Whittier Vocational Technical School. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, H. Patricia (Pat) Kimball, and visited many locations in this country and the Caribbean, as well as travels to Japan, Hong Kong, France, and Sweden. He was an avid gardener, who had glorious flower and vegetable gardens year after year. His biggest prize and interest was his family, and he was also theirs.

Kimball is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Hahn of Plaistow N.H.; children, Sandra (Donald Fraser) Kimball of Naples Fla.; Karen (Steve Warren) Ginsberg of Dallas, Texas; David (Claudia) Kimball of Manassas, Virg.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife H. Patricia Kimball; son Steven W. Kimball; and his parents, Carl and Clara Kimball.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Friday, Feb. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A memorial service takes place Saturday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial follows in St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Haverhill Public Library Children’s Books Charity, 99 Main Street, Haverhill, MA 01830.
