Groveland Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen and his staff want to help keep residents safe around guns. The department has announced two basic firearms safety courses for residents looking to obtain their license to carry or firearms identification card.
The training sessions will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the public safety building in the fire meeting room, 181 Main St. The cost of the course is $100.
Sessions overseen by Groveland Police Officer Edwin Fournier cover topics including basic firearms safety, knowledge and operation, ammunition, Massachusetts and Federal laws and transportation and storage.
At the conclusion of the class, all attendees will demonstrate to Fournier their ability to load and unload a firearm using dummy ammunition.
“As Police Chief, I support the public’s right to bear arms,” Gillen said. “Officer Fournier does a fantastic job leading this course and it’s a great way for us to interact and get to know community members. We encourage all who are interested, whether you’re from Groveland or a surrounding city or town, to sign up.”
