Methuen Police called in the aid of a State Police K-9 unit Monday to aid in the arrest of a Lawrence man for fentanyl and cocaine trafficking.

During a surveillance operation Monday afternoon, Methuen’s narcotics, gang and intelligence unit observed Danny Raphael Barias, 43, involved in an alleged drug transaction on Curtis Street near Bricknell Avenue.

Officers stopped Barias and called in the K-9 unit to locate and seize 94.4 grams of fentanyl, 20.7 grams of crack cocaine and 56 grams of powder cocaine hidden in a hydraulic compartment of the vehicle.

“This case is a prime example of outstanding police work,” Police Chief Joseph Solomon said. “Our number one goal is to keep our residents safe, and the officers involved in this investigation have done just that by preventing these harmful substances from being distributed in our community.”

Barias is being held on $50,000 cash bail pending his arraignment in Lawrence District Court.
