Amesbury Police acted on a telephone tip Tuesday to arrest a Haverhill man wanted in connection with a violent robbery at a Seabrook, N.H. Market Basket.
Freddy Poisson was identified using surveillance photos from Friday’s robbery that were distributed by Seabrook Police. Three arrest warrants were issued for the 40-year-old Poisson.
On Tuesday, Amesbury Police received a tip that Poisson was staying at a Congress Street home, Lt. Craig Bailey told WHAV. Amesbury officers dispatched to the residence found Poisson outside and he was arrested without incident.
He faces a single charge of being a fugitive from justice and was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Newburyport District Court.
Police say Poisson violently assaulted a woman Friday afternoon as she loaded groceries into her car at the Market Basket on Route 1. When he grabbed her wallet, the victim confronted him and the two exchanged blows. Poisson later jumped into an SUV and the victim was thrown to the pavement after trying to stop him by grabbing onto the driver’s side door.
The robbery victim remains hospitalized with multiple injuries.
Poisson faces felony robbery charges and reckless conduct. He will be arraigned in Rockingham Superior Court once he returns to New Hampshire.
