In its latest community outreach effort, the Haverhill Police Department invites city residents to mingle with officers at several local coffee shops this month.

‘Coffee With a Cop’ kicks off Friday, Jan. 19 at Battle Grounds Coffee Company, 39 Washington St., and the Bradford Dunkin Donuts at 725 South Main St. Officers will be available from 9 to 11 a.m. to greet residents and address concerns over coffee.

Capt. Stephen Doherty is one of the officers taking part and tells WHAV he looks forward to the program.

“We want to build bridges with the community and have positive interactions,” Doherty said. “We’re trying to be where people are going to be. In this area, people drink a lot of coffee, so we anticipate running into regular customers, not just those who aren’t necessarily there to talk to us.”

A second session is planned for Thursday, Jan. 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Bradford’s Heavenly Donuts, 55 South Main St., and the Dunkin Donuts at 215 Winter St.

Events are free and open to all.
