Greater Haverhill is expecting at least five to 10 inches of snow as Winter Storm Grayson brings blizzard conditions.
All area schools are closed Thursday. Haverhill has also declared a snow emergency, banning all parking on certain downtown streets until noon, Friday. Likewise, Methuen says it will “fully enforce” its winter parking ban through 12:30, Friday afternoon.
Gov. Charlie Baker, who has ordered non-emergency state offices closed, is urging everyone to stay off roadways to allow crews to clear snow. MBTA Commuter Rail is operating on, what it calls, a “reduced schedule,” in which some scheduled trains will not operate.

There is no school in Haverhill, Methuen and Andover. Regional school districts have also cancelled classes including Whittier, Pentucket and Timberlane. There are no day and evening classes at Northern Essex Community College or UMass Lowell’s Haverhill operation.
The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce is closed. Visitors to the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Lawrence offices are advised to call first to confirm.
National Grid says residents should expect power outages.
“National Grid will be part of a region-wide, team effort to keep our customers and employees safe during this storm,” said Jeff Merritt, director of Electric Operations and the storm’s incident commander for National Grid in New England. He adds, “We are confident that these partnerships will help us to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.”
Haverhill’s trash and recycling pickup remains scheduled, but officials advise placing containers out early. Plaistow, N.H., on the other hand, has delayed trash collection a day.
