Northern Essex Community College has named former Marine Sean Goldman of Derry, N.H., to the position of Veterans Services Director. He’ll work out of the school’s Haverhill campus.

Serving in Iraq, Belgium, Tanzania and China, Goldman, 32, worked as an electronic maintenance technician during his eight years in the Marines. Goldman left the Marines with the title of sergeant and earned his master’s in clinical social work from Boston University.

With an interest in veterans’ issues, Goldman was initially hired by NECC as a mental health counselor. He intends to juggle his current role with his new responsibility as the Veterans Services Director.

“We have to develop additional outreach ideas and develop ways to better integrate and involve student vets,” Goldman said.
In his new role, Goldman will assist NECC’s 124 actively enrolled veterans with receiving benefits and encourage prospective student veterans to attend the college. He also intends to hold veterans’ only orientation for incoming students.
