Norman Perino, 89, a longtime resident of Haverhill, passed away peacefully at Penacook Place in Haverhill on Thursday, Dec. 7.
Born Dec. 28, 1927 to Ralph and Katherine (Lucey) Perino of Italy and Ireland, respectively, Perino attended Haverhill Public schools and graduated from the Haverhill Trade School’s class of 1945. He served in the Korean War with the 1st Army Division, 19th Infantry Regiment, Company B, where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, and Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars. After returning home, he dedicated his professional career working as a machinist for the Pope Machinery Company in Haverhill and was a member of the International Association of Aerospace Workers.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his loving wife Gloria (Davies) Perino, of 64 wonderful years. He is survived by two sons, Ralph Perino of Bradford and Herbert Perino and his wife Sue, of Plantation, Fla., two daughters, Norma (Perino) Emery and her husband John of Danville, N.H. and Kat (Perino) Seifert and her husband Rich of Fairfax, Va. Perino was predeceased by his four brothers, Harold Perino of Groveland, Raymond Perino of Reading, Ralph Perino of Florida and Roland Perino of Washington, D.C. He leaves four grandchildren, Melissa and her husband Sean, Adam, Tom, and Steven, and three great-grandchildren Sean, Riley, and Abbie.
Perino was an avid history buff, especially remembered for his knowledge of his hometown of Haverhill. He loved sports and was a Little League umpire for many years at Swasey’s Field on Wednesday nights. Perino loved to travel with his beloved wife Gloria and visit religious sites like Rome, and historic castles like the Neuschwanstein in Germany, creating many lasting memories.
He was a member, with his wife Gloria, of All Saints Parish and a former member of St. Rita’s Parish in Haverhill. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Life Celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. His funeral will begin on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at All Saints Parish in Haverhill. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
