Thomas A. Bowles, 92, Retired from Western Electric

Thomas A. Bowles, 92, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Monday, Nov. 27, surrounded by his family.

Born in Caribou, Maine on April 12, 1925, Bowles was the son of the late Harry and Patience (Haney) Bowles.

He served with the Army National Guard for eight years as a field telephone operator at Fort Sill, Okla. He enjoyed sharing many quaint stories of his youth in Maine with his family. Moving to Haverhill in 1962, Bowles worked for 25 years at the former Western Electric and retired in 1987 as a Control System Technician. In years past, he enjoyed ice-fishing and later became an avid reader. For 20 years in Haverhill, his daily routine included morning breakfast at “McDonalds Steakhouse” on Main Street.

Bowles is survived by his children, Thomas H. Bowles and his wife Sandra of Bow, N.H., David N. Bowles of Haverhill and Carol L. Sanford and her husband Douglas of Ward Hill, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister Faye Wardwell of Perham, Maine and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his late wife of 56 years, Daisy M. (Grondin) Bowles, he was predeceased by his son Gary S. Bowles, and his devoted companion Matilda “Tillie” Haney.

Arrangements by Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill, will be private. At the family’s request there will be no calling hours. Private burial on the family lot in Caribou, Maine will take place at a later date.
