Dale Rogers has gone from sculpting the American dog to crafting another iconic piece of art: The star to top Haverhill’s city Christmas tree.

The local artist behind the metal dog sculptures seen around town tells WHAV he was commissioned to design the tree topper that will go on the Washington Square spruce donated by Kenneth Quimby.

Saturday’s tree lighting—featuring a very special guest from the North Pole—is the main attraction at the 25th annual Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce Christmas Stroll.

Local pop-up shops, food vendors and live entertainment acts take over Washington Street starting at 2 p.m., with holiday fun continuing until the tree lighting at 6 p.m.

Saturday’s event also features Haverhill historian Gus Reusch’s reading of John Greenleaf Whittier’s “Snowbound,” and an appearance by WMUR weatherman Josh Judge, who will sign copies of his book “Be Kind to the Weather Guy.”
