Thanks and Giving

The board, management and staff of Greater Haverhill’s only public radio station—97.9 WHAV FM—give thanks on this Thanksgiving Day and every day for support from donors like you.

Donors take several forms from members whose monthly and annual giving have made WHAV the area’s number one source of local news to sponsors who underwrite a wide array of programming vital to keeping the community informed. There’s also the large one-time contributors who have helped equip and maintain the broadcast studios as well as the Silver Hill FM transmitter site. During a WHAV visit last June, “Dancing with the Stars” host Tom Bergeron summed up the challenge.

“What you are doing here—and I don’t think people realize it—is a publicly supported station. You depend on—particularly at this time when journalism anywhere is under fire just for economic reasons if not political ones. It’s a tough time to be a journalist or to run either a newspaper or a broadcast station, and this particular type of station now depends on listener support,” Bergeron said, in an effort to solicit listener donations and memberships.

While other forms of media are declining, every study of radio’s audiences show the medium continues to reach more than 90 percent of all age groups, every week. In fact, WHAV’s target audience averages 92 percent.

Shop on Black Friday and Support WHAV

If you plan to shop on Black Friday, go to smile.amazon.com/ch/45-1702581 and Amazon will make a donation to WHAV-owner, Public Media of New England Inc.

Forward this email to your family and friends along with a personal note as to why you believe in WHAV’s work, and why they should give.

Please remember Tom Bergeron’s plea. “I started at WHAV in 1972 and, look, WHAV is still here, but it won’t be if you don’t help support it…become a contributor. Keep us going.”

Happy Thanksgiving!

Now if all those hypocrite commenters/readers would open their wallets to a whopping $10/month and start putting their money where their mouths are, we could have LOCAL news outlet, from a LOCAL business, succeed.

If you truly can’t afford $10/month (not a CHEAP hypocrite), then get in touch with Tim Coco and I’ll pay/donate for your (one person – picked by Tim not me) year subscription. I don’t care if Tim picks a Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, Green, or Republican.
