State Police Identify 59-Year-Old Woman Killed in Morning Crash

Maureen Bonnell of Haverhill has been identified as the sole victim of this morning’s fatal car crash on Interstate 495 south near I-93 in Andover.

Massachusetts State Police this afternoon released 59-year-old Bonnell’s name after reaching next of kin. She was killed around 6:30 this morning when her 2010 Honda CRV struck another car from behind, according to a report by Trooper Thomas Hollow.

The crash caused a cascade of collisions, ultimately involving four other vehicles. Police said Bonnell’s car struck a 2015 GMC Sierra pickup, causing a series of crashes involving a 2003 Toyota 4Runner, 2003 Chevrolet Impala and 2012 Mazda 3.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 57-year-old man from South Berwick, Maine, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Other drivers including a 51-year-old Newton, N.H. man, driving the Toyota 4Runner; a 22-year-old North Andover man driving the Chevrolet Impala; and a 54-year-old Farmington, N.H., woman driving the Mazda 3, were not injured.

State Police said traffic was slow or near a standstill when the crash occurred. After the accident, the two right lanes were closed until just before 9 a.m.
