Maureen (Maniates) Corbett, 75, CPA, Former Haverhill Mayoral Candidate

Maureen (Maniates) Corbett, 75, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Nov. 16 at her home following a long illness.

Born in Haverhill, the daughter of the late John and Doris Maniates, she attended local schools and graduated from Haverhill High School. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and later her Master’s Degree in Taxation, from Bentley College, Waltham.

A Certified Public Accountant since 1975, Corbett was first employed at Sullivan and Billie, CPA of Lowell before establishing her own practice in Haverhill in 1980.

A former Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Bentley College, she has also taught courses in Financial Management and Accounting and was a member of the Bentley Tax Forum Discussion Group, and was a Registered Business Education Teacher for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Involved in civic and alumni affairs, Corbett served as the first female President of the Bentley College Alumni Association as well as President of the National Alumni Association as well and President of the Women’s Chapter of the Bentley College Alumni Association, and President of the Merrimack Valley Chapter of the Bentley College Association.

A Trustee Emerita of Bentley College, she previously served on the Academic and Student Affairs Committees.
Corbett was a former Mayoral candidate for the City of Haverhill and was a former Treasurer of the Merrimack Valley Estate Planning Council, an Advisory Board member for Northern Essex Community College Center for Business and Industry and a founding member and Past Treasurer of the Ayers Village Area Neighborhood Association. She also served as Treasurer for the Communication Workers of America Local 1365 and the Haverhill Neighborhood Coalition.

A former member of the Board of Trustees of the YWCA of Greater Haverhill, Corbett was also a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Construction Financial Management Association, The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, The Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation and the Academy of Family Mediators.

She enjoyed line dancing, travel and trips to Las Vegas.

The wife of the late Paul W. Corbett, she is survived by a sister Sharon Maniates of Haverhill, two step-daughters, Colleen Aboud and her husband Rob of Winter Springs, Fla., and Lynda Cayer and her husband Richard of Hampstead, N.H., a stepson Paul W. Corbett, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Atkinson, step-grandchildren, Steven D. Aboud and his wife Patricia, Ross D. Aboud and his wife Jennifer, Brian Cayer and his wife Bridgit, Bradford Cayer and his wife Jennifer, Leah Corbett, and Peter Corbett and his wife Erika, and seven great-grandchildren.

At Corbett’s request, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Berube- Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill.
