Lawrence Partnership to Honor David Tibbetts for Merrimack Valley Economic Growth Efforts

Merrimack Valley economic development champion David A. Tibbetts will receive the Lawrence Partnership’s inaugural Economic Impact Award, named in his honor, early next month.

Going forward the award will be known as “David Tibbetts Economic Impact Award.”

Recognizing leaders like Tibbetts who implement economic strategies that move their communities forward, the award will be presented for the first time Tuesday, Dec. 5. The reception takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the Lawrence Partnership’s annual meeting.

A Lawrence native, Tibbetts served as secretary of Economic Development for the Commonwealth under former Governor William Weld and founded the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council in 1999.

The Council’s mission was “…to advance the economic interests of the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts, by fostering greater communication and cooperation between the public and private sectors, and by encouraging collaborative efforts between and among individual communities, leading to sustainable economic growth and prosperity for every community in the Merrimack Valley.”

Tibbetts, now retired, resides in Newburyport.
