Janet Marie (Donahue) Salter, RN, 87, Worked at Hale Hospital, Lucent

Janet Marie (Donahue) Salter, RN, 87, died peacefully at home in Haverhill on Sunday, Nov. 5 after a period of declining health.

A devout Catholic and daughter of Sacred Hearts Parish, Salter was for many years a daily communicant at St. James Parish, a member of St. James Sodality and a weekly adorer of the Most Blessed Sacrament. She graduated from Salem Hospital School of Nursing in 1951, beginning her nursing career at Hale Hospital and retiring from Lucent Technologies in 1989.

Salter is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years Francis X. Salter, children Gerard F. Salter and wife, Requi M., of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Marie A. Salter of Haverhill; grandchildren Edie, Matthew, Emily, Audrey, Michael, and Regan; sister Elizabeth A. Ouellette; sisters-in-law Sr. M. Joseph Francis, CSJ and Mary M. Filipowicz; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Walter J. and Catherine E. Donahue, brothers J. Robert, Francis X. and W. Richard Donahue and sister Barbara J. Evans.

The family wishes to thank all who have cared for Salter the past few years, especially Rev. Timothy Kearney, Rev. Andreas Davison, the nurses of Home Health VNA, Dexter, Diane, Sheryl, Yarlin, Colleen and Rachel, Dr. Lydia Zuser and staff, the Haverhill Fire Department and Trinity EMS and all who have so generously prayed for her.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following visiting hours at 12:30 p.m. in St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Salter’s name may be made to All Saints Parish, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill, MA 01832, and Saint James Parish, 185 Winter St., Haverhill, MA 01830.
