Michitson, Vargas Endorse Katrina Hobbs-Everett for School Committee

City Council President John A. Michitson and Councilor Andy Vargas know just the School Committee candidate they’ll be voting for on Tuesday: Katrina Hobbs-Everett.

The pair of councilmen issued endorsements for Hobbs-Everett ahead of the Nov. 4 election, where she will face off against incumbents Maura L. Ryan-Ciardiello and Paul A. Magliocchetti and newcomers Rich Rosa and Richard E. Smyth for one of three open positions. Members of Haverhill’s School Committee serve a four-year term.

“I have been urging Kat to run for School Committee for two years. She walks the walk with POSE (Power of Self Education, Hobbs-Everett’s social responsibility organization) and other initiatives to address some of the Haverhill School System’s toughest challenges, such as bullying, and fights for the rights of students and their families,” said Michitson of the married mom who runs on a platform highlighting special education and family engagement.

Vargas welcomes the opportunity to partner with Hobbs-Everett to better the city of Haverhill.

“I cannot think of a better person that not only understands education policy but understands the community,” said Vargas. “Before we go in and try to solve problems, we have to listen to the people who are most affected and Katrina knows how to do just that.”

Haverhill also votes to elect its mayor and City Council on Tuesday.

Andy, what a great state liberal Massachusetts is, huh? Your father entered the USA illegally from the Dominican Republic and ending up in Haverhill where it cost taxpayers over $100,000 to educate you and each of your siblings, and now here you are endorsing a race based candidate who, like you, thinks there is nothing wrong with people like your father breaking the laws of this country.

Saying you support education in Haverhill while children of illegals in the city are costing taxpayers $15MIllion EVERY year to educate is the ultimate con job.

    • Hmmm…

      Let me see…my choices are…

a man whos’ “father entered the USA illegally”.

      or

a man who cost the city 10 million dollars because political foolishness is all he’s got.

What to do…what to do ….

  2. Both of these endorsements are ridiculous. The same things can be said about anyone, anywhere. In no way do these endorsements distinguish the candidate. I wish politicians would stop patting each other on the back. It is unseemly.
