Congresswoman Niki Tsongas this week endorsed City Councilor Andy Vargas to be the next state representative for Haverhill’s Third Essex District.
Besides the endorsement, Tsongas kicks off door-to-door canvassing Saturday afternoon by addressing Vargas volunteers and hosts a fundraiser Saturday night.
“I have appreciated the opportunity to work with Andy during his enthusiastic service as a Haverhill City Councilor,” Tsongas said. “Andy is talented and motivated to make a difference on behalf of his neighbors and his community and I’m confident he will be an effective partner on Beacon Hill, building on the remarkable tenure of Rep. Brian Dempsey,” she added.
At Saturday night’s event, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Barking Dog Ale House, 77 Washington St., Tsongas is expected to be joined by Mayor James J. Fiorentini, Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives, Reps. Linda Dean Campbell and Diana DiZoglio, and City Councilors John A. Michitson, Melinda E. Barrett, William J. Macek, Thomas J. Sullivan and Mary Ellen Daly O’Brien. Other community leaders include Heather McMann, Jeff Grassie, Lisa Marzilli, Anabelle Rondon, Luisa Peña-Lyons and John and Deb Maddox.
Vargas said he is “honored and thrilled” to have the congresswoman’s support.
“Her endorsement speaks to the importance of the values we’ve outlined in this campaign: investing in economic development, funding public education, prioritizing public safety, and fighting at all times for equality and justice.” He said he first became a political volunteer while still in high school when he went to work on one of Tsongas’ earlier re-election runs.

Niki Tsongas wouldn’t know what equality and justice was if it cam up to her and kicked her ass. Her entire time in Congress has been just another multimillionaire money-grabbing whore from wealthy campaign donors and corporate interests.
Her VOTE has been a decade of hypocrisy, starting with Bailouts and political intelligence insider trading immunity for Congress Members right after.
Her ACA vote was one where Congress, yet again, exempted themselves, their families, and staff from the requirements of ACA, while benefiting taxpayer subsidized health plans the rest of us can’t take advantage of. Her Campaign Committee enjoys the donations of others via Niki’s campaign funds, which pays for her staff’s health care – all made legal, once again, thanks to the UNEQUAL law she voted for.
Sycophant voters of course don’t care she is a deceiver, they only care that she’s a Democrat, even though she has voted against the interests of the very people her Party claims to represent. At least with most Republicans, you know they’re going to screw you, but Democrats like Niki use rhetorical nonsense (read lies) to push their false narrative of “helping” their constituency.
Niki Tsongas is a perfect example of the cancer that infects our government(s).

With respect to the ACA, when the ACA first went into effect, I called ALL of my state and federal politicians to complain that they were exempted from the law and asked them to explain to me why they thought this was OK. THE STAFFERS ARGUED WITH ME, SAYING THEY ARE ENTITLED.
Niki Tsongas is also afraid of her constituents, it would seem. When she has a town hall meeting, it is not a town hall event that she holds. Her constituents line up in the hall, she meets with them individually, AND has a staffer with her to argue her case against whatever the constituent has to say. Some Town Hall meeting.
AND, what has she done for veterans? NOTHING.
So — you are correct. One loser endorsing another.
Slippper….One of the biggest arguments liberal democrats made in pushing for government controlled healthcare was the high cost uninsured people (both legal citizens and illegal invaders) put on the system by just showing up at hospitals for treatment without any insurance. Democrats were arguing that the ACA was going to eliminate this from happening, thereby driving costs down. So I called Niki Tsongas’ office and got a high level staffer on the phone to discuss this specific issue. When I ask the guy if hospitals were going to be allowed to deny service to uninsured people who continue to show up at hospital emergence rooms, especially invaders illegally in the country, all I got was silence.
the ACA was a total scam from the beginning.
