Janet L. (Morton) Dumas, 86, Editor at Bell Labs

Janet L. (Morton) Dumas, 86, a lifelong Haverhill resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 24, surrounded by her family, including her beloved husband Paul A. Dumas. The couple had celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary several days before her passing.

Born in Haverhill on Feb. 8, 1931, she was the daughter of Earl and Mabel (Comeau) Morton. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Dumas worked for many years as an editor at Bell Labs until her retirement in 1988. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, camping and spending time with her family.

The Dumas family would like to thank the staff of Wingate at Haverhill for the care they have provided over the years.

Her surviving family members in addition to her husband Paul include her adoring children Guy Dumas and wife Sandra Fleming of Kingston, N.H., Dawn Lynch of Haverhill and Neal Dumas and wife Karen of Haverhill, grandchildren Ashley and Coleman Fleming Dumas, Caitlin and Faith Lynch and Jason and Colleen Dumas, great-grandchild Henry Lynch Allain and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Eve Dumas who passed at birth and sister of the late Richard Morton, Robert Morton and William Morton.

Services will begin Friday morning, Oct. 27, with visiting hours from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill. Private burial will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
