Haverhill City Councilor Andy Vargas, Democratic candidate for state representative, this week received the endorsements of the Democratic members of the city’s legislative delegation.

State Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives and Reps. Linda Dean Campbell and Diana DiZoglio join Mayor James J. Fiorentini and a majority of Haverhill City Council endorsing his bid to succeed former Rep. Brian S. Dempsey.

“As Haverhill’s state senator,” O’Connor Ives said, “it’s important for me to endorse a candidate in the Nov.7 rep. race because the stakes are high and I know Andy Vargas will work hard every day, pushing for Haverhill’s interests, not special interests or self-interest.”

Campbell, who appeared at Vargas’ primary election victory party, said the city councilor brings a new perspective.

“He’s going to bring the perspective of a new generation, which is really needed and welcome,” she said, adding, “During my time working with him on the civic education bill, I’ve found him to be mature beyond his years.”

DiZoglio said Vargas has bipartisan appeal. “I’ve been impressed with how folks from both sides of the aisle can speak to Councilor Vargas’ work ethic.”

Vargas used the endorsements to highlight what he believes are the issues of the campaign.

“They understand the issues facing Haverhill and what it will take to overcome them—investing in education and public safety, while supporting our small businesses. I look forward to working with them if I am fortunate enough to be elected by the people of Haverhill.”

Can you believe it? Campbell was actually in Haverhill!!

Someone needs to inform O’Connor Ives Acorn Andy is all about self-interests. Someone should inform her that Andy’s father is a criminal trespasser from the Dominican Republic and that’s why Andy intentionally committed the crime of obstruction of justice by interfering with Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials when they were in Haverhill doing their job.

Andy’s whole existence is about supporting his constituents who are illegally breaking the laws of this country. Someone who promotes and justifies people ignoring the rule of law has no business having a job making laws.

    • I would donate the maximum to any Democrat just to Primary her next cycle. Her 2-page justification to me on her voting for Beacon Hill raises was insulting. She is a board-watching hack with zero independence. Give me a Dianna DiZoglio type Democrat, who actually has some independence, and I’ll get all my friends to donate the max just to get rid of Campbell.
