Nicholas S. Katsaros, 62, Helped Manage George Kay’s Lounge

Nicholas S. Katsaros, 62, of Haverhill, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Thursday, Oct. 12, at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley, Haverhill.

He was born in Haverhill, Dec. 30, 1954, son of Effie (Sarbanis) Katsaros of Haverhill, and the late former Mayor of Haverhill George K. Katsaros.

Educated in the Haverhill school system, he graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1972, Lawrence Academy, and also Bradford College.

He was employed at F.H. Cann Associates, North Andover for more than 10 years. Prior to this he was employed at the former Arlington Trust Bank. In his younger years, Katsaros worked with his father and helped manage George Kay’s Lounge and the Crystal Room.

A likeable person who was well known in the community, he enjoyed bowling, spending many Tuesday nights at Academy Lanes. Being a trumpet player, Katsaros performed in the Haverhill City Band and as well as George Kay’s Orchestra.

Besides his mother his survivors include a daughter; Kimberly Campelli and her husband Matthew of Lowell, two sons; George N. Katsaros and Nicholas W. Katsaros both of Haverhill, his children’s mother; Lynn (Cruickshank) Katsaros of Haverhill, three aunts; Mary Merrick of Haverhill, Betty Sarbanis, Ann Thanos of NC, an uncle; John Katsaros and his wife Mary of Haverhill, numerous cousins, his girlfriend; Diana Rivera of Haverhill and his dog Nico. He was also predeceased by three aunts; Ann Katsaros Ziehl, Madeline Katsaros Alphas and Mary Zervelis as well as three uncles S. Charles Katsaros, Sotiris S. Katsaros and Angelo Sarbanis.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours Wednesday Oct. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 So. Main St., Bradford. His funeral service takes place Thursday beginning at 10 a.m., from the Funeral home followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 in Holy Apostles Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter St., Haverhill. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

  1. Nick Katsaros also liked watching trains and collecting old antique telephone pole insulators. He did these things with me, (Jeffrey Hull ,5o yrs old of Haverhill mass) and we had a friendship for about 15 and a half years. I will miss hem deeply and gratefully. R.I.P. Nick Katsaros.
