A 24-year-old Haverhill man has been arrested in conjunction with the Sunday, Oct. 15 stabbing and attempted robbery at Red Hen Pantry, 56 River St., Detective Lt. Robert Pistone confirmed to WHAV Monday.

Davian Coote was taken into custody on a warrant for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury. He was also charged with attempted armed robbery and resisting arrest after Haverhill Police arrested him on White Street at 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

He will be arraigned Tuesday in Haverhill District Court, sitting in Newburyport.

As WHAV exclusively reported, Coote allegedly stabbed a Red Hen employee a half hour into his store shift at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The employee, described as being in his mid-20s, fended off the attack and then arranged for another worker to fill in for him before being taken to a local hospital, his co-worker told WHAV.

“He fought him off. There was blood everywhere,” the co-worker said. Most of the blood came from a gash above the eye. Otherwise, his colleague theorized, wounds were non-life-threatening likely because the knife used had a curved blade and could not be easily used to puncture.

The attack took place inside near the store entrance.

Speaking to WHAV on Sunday evening, a store employee believed that they recognized the attacker as a previous patron of the Red Hen Pantry.

  1. Awesome. Expect more and more of this as we continue to re-elect bozos like Mayor Low-rent-tini and the do-nothings on city council. Vargas will beat Shaun Ryan. Then watch Haverhill live up to and surpass its already unfortunate reputation. What a shame. I hope the victim recovers well. Sad.

    • Gil, what we’re experiencing in Haverhill and Massachusetts are the affects of liberal public policy. These brain dead liberals create policies that attract not just criminal trespassers from other countries, but non-skilled, unemployable people of all sorts. The state then puts them on welfare, and if they can’t get state aid they commit crimes to survive. If selling drugs can’t support them they then turn to other crimes to get money. Democrats raised taxes so high in this country/state it left corporations with no choice but to move their operations to other countries, taking jobs with them, and leaving crime as the only means of subsistence for these people. Along the way in Haverhill mayor failurentini has created an abundance of low income, subsidized housing assuring that these people with no means to contribute to society have a place to live. In Andy Vargas, Haverhill criminals have an elected public official who publicly takes action to make sure they are not caught by Federal law enforcement officials. And now, in their wisdom, liberals promoted and have legalized a highly addictive, hallucinogenic drug in the state. That legislation not only legalized the use of pot, it permits people to grow it themselves, which is going to create an enormous number of black market drug dealers. I can’t wait to see what things will be like when that all gets going. So you are absolutely right…expect more of this!

      • Amen to both of these posts! We are going to hell in a handbasket and are also turning into a duplicate of Lawrence. Good for the cops that they caught this nasty bugger post-haste! Don’t know how the cops keep up with all of this mess. Terrible that these nasty people feel free to rob and pillage anyone and everyone.

And shame on all of those voters who voted for Andy Vargas. If he is elected, God save Massachusetts!
