Ellen J. (Guyer) Powers, 77, Worked at Glynn Memorial Nursing Home

Ellen J. (Guyer) Powers, 77, of Newburyport, formerly of Merrimac and Haverhill, died Thursday afternoon at Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport, with her family at her side.

One of four children of the late Gerald and Grace (Donnelly) Guyer, she was born in Revere, June 28, 1940, and was a graduate of Revere High School.

For some time she worked at the telephone company in Boston, and in later years became a certified nurse’s assistant, working at the former Glynn Memorial Nursing Home in Haverhill.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother and self appointed caretaker of her family. Her life was all about taking care of others and helping with whatever needed to be done. No task was too big or too daunting – she always found a way and the time that was needed.

She leaves her daughter, Michelle L. Powers of Kingston, N.H.; sons, Bradley E. Powers Jr. and wife Karen of Danville, N.H.; and Glenn Powers and Diane White of Kingston, N.H.; six grandchildren, Timothy and Stacie Powers, Benjamin and Lauren Powers, and Jackson and Tatum Goebel; brother, Gerry and Jan Guyer of Peabody; former husband, Bradley E. Powers of Haverhill, along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Grace Guide and Marilyn Neuman.

Visiting hours are Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main St., Merrimac. A memorial mass will be Wednesday, Oct.r 4, at 11 a.m., at the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Redeemer Parish, 4 Green Street, Merrimac, followed by burial at Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
