An unidentified teenager was struck and killed by a train in Andover, early Tuesday night.

The 17-year-old was a student at Phillips Andover Academy and was alone, according to Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokesperson for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett. He was struck near 38 Andover St., according to a statement by Andover Police.

“No foul play is suspected,” Kimball-Monahan told WHAV. She would not speak directly to whether investigators have determined the death was accidental. The commuter rail train was heading toward Haverhill.

“The boy’s family has been notified, but his information will not be released to the public at this time,” police said.

Besides Andover Police, Andover Fire Rescue, MBTA Police and Massachusetts State Police responded to the report of the teen being struck just before 7:30 p.m. He was taken to Lawrence General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
