John J. “Jay” Donovan, 68, Retired from Haverhill Water Treatment Plant

John J. “Jay” Donovan, 68, of Saco, Maine, and formerly of Haverhill, passed away Sept. 21.

He was the son of the late James J. and Helen M. (Taber) Donovan. He attended St. James High School, class of 1967, and then went on to drafting school. He was employed at Raytheon, Western Electric and the City of Haverhill, retiring from the Water Treatment Plant. He lived in Haverhill most of his life and, for the last five years, lived in Saco, Maine. Donovan served his country honorably in the United States Army Reserves during the Vietnam Era.

Donovan is survived by his companion of 30 years, Diane Woron of Saco, Maine; brother, Thomas T. Donovan of North Andover; two sisters, Helen M. Lisbon of Plaistow, N.H., and Marianne Chicarello and her husband Paul of Winthrop; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Charles P. Donovan, brothers Francis H. Donovan and James M. Donovan.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 29, at St. Joseph’s Church, 178 Elm St., Biddeford, Maine. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Locally, a Mass of Intention will be said in his name Saturday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m., at St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill.
